[This post went out to my mailing list today.]
It’s fall and fall-like now. I love this time of year. It makes me think of my dad, who also loved fall, and who I imagine to be closer to us now. It wasn’t until his death that I felt the “thinning of the veil” between our world and the world of spirit. For me, that means that the light is golden, my emotions are wild, and there are abundant physical reminders that change is inevitable and that someday we all cross over.
Open Studio
Speaking of death and good times: I got to stay in my studio! My landlord made me a great deal and I kept the space in the Bellin Building.
In my studio, you can get a quick portrait drawn and see some of my recent daily paintings IRL. (The image at the top of this email is one of those paintings.) At the Allegheny Fok School with April, you can try your hand at floor loom weaving. That evening, from 5:30 – 7 PM, SAGE hosts artist Weeya Calif teaching digital illustration to youth. There are still a few spots left in her class. Interested young artists (and their people) can sign up for the class here. The curious can peek in and see the work in progress.
If you’re in the area, please join us. We’ll have fizzy drinks and processed snacks. Wear a costume if you like.
In the interest of full disclosure, I tested positive for COVID on Monday, 10/28. Provided I am symptom-free on Friday, I will be there with a mask and with the windows cracked open. The Open Studio will happen with or without me.
Really Big Prints applications open
Really Big Prints will return to the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum in July 2025! We’ll be printing from July 16 to 19, 2025. Applications are now open to join us! You can read more about this year’s RBP and find the application link here. Applications close on January 15th, 2025. New for us this year: early volunteer registration. Curious about big printing? Fond of Lake Michigan in July? Come lend us your hands and see the processes up close. Sign up here to volunteer with RBP this July.
In Closing
Locals, I hope you can join us this Friday, Nov. 1st from 6 – 9 PM on the 6th floor of the Bellin Building. Remote readers: I always love hearing from you. What are you making? What wakes you in the night? What’s your favorite current favorite song? How are things?
Keep in touch,
Katie
